I wasn't able to get a voice-command iPhone running acceptably in our speaker dock earlier this week. But it did get me thinking. Since I had an old iPhone updated to iOS 8.1 already, I jailbroke it tonight and installed an app to make that iPhone an Airplay Receiver.
Now, any Apple device in the house can broadcast music or podcasts to the speaker dock in the Kitchen, without having to mess with the actual phone plugged into the dock. I think it's pretty good odds I can get my android phone working with it as well.
