I haven't talked about it much on this blog, but we have a hot tub. Remarkably, I don't have any good pictures of it. Here's the best I could find:
The old hot tub cover was in bad shape: the vinyl was torn, there was a lot of hail damage, the insulation was completely water-logged (seriously, it must weigh over 100 pounds) and worst of all: it's latches had fallen off long ago - a huge problem if we're going to have toddlers running around the back yard.
We ordered a new hot tub cover in early May. Blasted thing was expensive, over $400. It finally arrived this week. We also ordered a cover lifter.
The lifter is really convenient. Even though the new cover is much thicker than the old one, it's much easier to open. And since the lifter's "open" position is high relative to the hot tub, it makes a great privacy screen to the road and trail south of our house.
