Nest Thermostat Low Battery Solution

After installing the Nest Thermostat (Gen 2, for those curious) in the new house, it started to have low battery warnings and go offline to conserve power. Apparently this is not a new issue. The solution is to add a common wire (+24 VDC). Fortunately, whoever wired up this house's furnace originally used a 5-wire cable, leaving two wires unused. I hooked the blue one up to the Common junction at the furnace, and connected the other end to the Nest. This explanation at StackExchange was quite helpful.

Assuming the Nest's battery stays charged over the next few days (and the house doesn't burn down) I'll consider it a great success!

New Nest wiring schematic. I added the blue, 24 volt "common" wire.

Everything seems to be working well!
